born in Belgium in 1969, Anja Van Herle combines a European sense of haute couture in their artwork with an American sense of wonder. her childhood years were devoted to the basics of their art exploring use crayons, pencils and watercolors. in 1987 she enrolled at the Belgian Academy of arts education, where she earned a Master of Fine Arts in painting , In 2003 Anja moved to Los Angeles where she now focuses on figurative paintings that are inspired by classic and modern fashion, even though troubles of identity, emotion and human relationships to explore. As timeless chic as Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's, Anja girls playfully sexy, and their faces and eyes inform stories that go far beyond the simple exhibition of fine fashion.

"My function is an attempt to capture the complexity of emotions that are transported in the human face. I have portraits painted because I was a kid, continually closer don the face and eyes to to explore the feelings they include There is a story behind every face. my pictures are an try to inform these stories to capture the delicate facial expressions and with bright colors and the dramatic interplay of light and shadow confrontation that both my themes inform and hold their enigmatic aura. JoAnne Artman Gallery opens at 326 N. Coast Highway in Laguna Beach and Wednesdays-Sundays 11-five, and by appointment.
