Marney grew up in the sixties in North Vancouver and has been interested in the perception, consciousness and creativity for most of their lives. In the late sixties and early seventies, she earned a Ph.D. UBC on the art and poetry of William Blake.

In the early nineties, she decided her 1st passion to rethink art. She discovered techniques of brushwork and wetness manage of classes in Chinese brush painting, and of her lifelong mentor Emily Carr, she learned about the fighting spirit in the art to express. For Marney, flowers often have the power of inner joy to revive, so she studied flowers with nearby artists Caren Heine and Ann Hunter. She continued to create their own distinctive style of watercolors of flowers: big, vibrant, lit from behind close-up, showing the spiritual essence of the flowers she paints and beyond, their personal spiritual connection with nature. For Marney, watercolor is the best medium, with its spontaneous, flowing fabric and its clear, transparent colour, which permits the light to shine via the paper.
